Evidence Based Medicine
To provide you with the best care, we at St. Claire Medical practice Evidence Based Medicine (EBM).
EBM is the "conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of [individuals]." The practice of evidence based medicine is an art that blends clinical expertise with the best medical research.
By clinical expertise, we mean the judgment individual healthcare providers acquire through their clinical experience and practice. To increase our clinical expertise, we take the time to listen to you and thoughtfully identify your concerns and preferences.
By the best medical research, we mean the external, clinically relevant evidence found in the latest medical journals. The best medical research frequently invalidates previously accepted diagnostic tests and treatments and replaces them with new ones that are more powerful, more accurate, and safer. This is why we do not do things the way they have always been done. As medical knowledge evolves, so does the way we practice medicine.
Good doctors combine their clinical expertise with the best medical research, and neither one alone is enough. Without clinical expertise, book-smart doctors cannot figure out what medical research applies to what person. Without the best medical research, doctors rely solely on their training, which often quickly becomes outdated.
We believe it is critical to have both outstanding clinical expertise and a firm understanding of the best medical research. This is our pledge: We will practice cutting-edge EBM to take the best possible care of you.
